Dear Parents
It has been our privilege this week to host Wendy
Lock at HeronBridge. She has long been a friend of
the College. She was an active staff member of the
Preparatory school for a few years. However, in
July 2006 she moved permanently to teach at Faith
Academy (in the Philippines) in response to the Lord's
call on her life. HeronBridge College continues to
view her as a member of staff, now seconded to Faith
Academy. Faith Academy purposes educating children
of missionaries in South-East Asia so that their
children receive a sound education. Wendy is a
dynamic Grade 2 teacher. We enjoy her regular
correspondence and are privileged to share in a small
way with her in her ministry.
Wendy has been updating us on all that has
happened to her these past few months, particularly as
she experienced typhoon Ondoy last September.
Apart from recounting the personal aspects of living
through the horror of such an event, she has made us
aware of the generally extreme conditions and extensive
poverty that has resulted. Faith Academy has
instituted a wide-ranging relief programme,
incorporating housing, feeding and medical assistance.
Faith Academy has already established a fund for relief
efforts. It is currently down to the last $1000.
We perceive here an opportunity for our College
to partner with Faith Academy in one of their relief
efforts. We have had recommended to us the Areanda
squatter area and are now inviting all to consider
donating to this most worthwhile and effective
programme. If your family would like to do
so, we invite you to make a donation directly to the
following account, by 12 March:
HeronBridge College Bank: FNB Branch:
Fourways Mall Branch code: 251655 Acc No:
62028152958 Ref: Philippines appeal
We shall report back on the funds raised and any
communication we have with Faith Academy.
This is an opportunity for us to be generous to
people in dire circumstances, known to us through Wendy,
and for the heart of the HeronBridge community to be
demonstrated. We encourage one and all to participate,
without any compunction but as able to do so.
We wish Wendy well as she returns to Manila in a
few weeks' time. We assure her of our ongoing
support for her in her teaching.
Thank you for considering this call.
Yours sincerely David Klein 24 February

Dear Parents
Experience HBC DAY 2010: Friday, 26 March
Thank you for the interest you have shown in HeronBridge College. We are very proud of our
school and hope that you will come to know it as we do. This year we are celebrating our 10th
year of excellence in education.
For your info, our school is founded on Christian principles and aims to provide an education of
the highest quality, developing each child academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. A
favourable teacher to learner ratio ensures the fundamental ethos of care and concern for the
individual. Solid foundations for life are laid through an active Life Orientation programme that
seeks to be relevant to young people today. Our motto, Ad Integritatem, means towards
integrity and it is this value that underscores HeronBridge College's efforts at every level.
We are aware of the very difficult decision you need to make soon: choosing a high school for
your child. We are also aware that there are many outstanding schools out there, all offering
wonderful opportunities for you and your child. We would thus like to extend an invitation to
you and your child to visit us for the day. This will afford you the opportunity to get to know us,
see what we stand for and view all we have to offer.
On this day, we plan like to expose your child to the full HeronBridge College Experience. This
will involve him / her attending classes and seeing for themselves the many exciting
happenings at our school – watch them enthuse about their DIGI School Experience! They will
be treated to a meal at our canteen, enjoy a councillors assembly, and even get a chance to try
out their sporting skills against our current Grade 8’s.
Your child’s day will begin with registration at 08h30 (please don’t be late).
Thereafter the days programme will include:
Class Room Experience
- 2 visits to the College Canteen. At the first break visit a light snack will be provided;
and at the second break another light snack with refreshment.( Advisable to send along
cash for any extra canteen requirements, your child may want)
College Assembly
- Talk and Presentation on what to expect: The High School Years
- Co-Curricular opportunities (both sports and cultural events)
Parents are invited to a tour of our campus starting at 14h00. Thereafter, at 15h00, parents
and pupils may attend an address by Mr Dave Klein – Head of the College. Parents are
encouraged to attend this talk. There will be a question and answer session after the talk.
Once this session is over parents may take their children home.
Dress Code: All pupils will be given an Experience HBC DAY 2010 T-shirt at registration. This
is to identify our visitors on this day. Pupils are therefore asked to come dressed
in clothing that will accommodate this shirt. Pupils are also asked to please pack
items relevant to the sporting disciplines they will be participating in (see
booking form below.) Neat jeans & comfortable shoes will suffice (suggestion
girls not to wear skirts, as they may feel uncomfortable to participate in the
physical activities planned).
To secure your child’s place at the Experience HBC DAY 2010 please complete the attached
form and return to us by the Friday 19 March. Space is limited and will be offered on a first
come first serve basis.
We look forward to seeing you at Experience HBC DAY 2010.
Warm regards
The HeronBridge Marketing Team
