Team Selection

● Each House Play is written, directed and staged by the matric
students from each of the four houses.
● At the end of Grade 11; the newly appointed House Captains
and their fellow Grade 11’s from each house, work together to
assist with the production of their House Play.
● This team of script writers, directors, stage managers, lighting
and sound technicians and prop managers are responsible for
every element of the play; writing the script, casting the actors,
staging, technical management, costumes and props.
● The process of casting works according to a hierarchical system
by which matric pupils are prioritized in the casting of leading roles.
The objective of such a casting system is to afford matric students
the opportunity to participate in a cultural activity in their final year
of school. The matrics are not required to audition for their roles.
● Each House Play also comprises of a large cast. It is normally
within the first two weeks back at school that the House Play
teams hold auditions for those interested in taking part in the
plays. Due to the timing of the competition, there is usually very
little time for rehearsals and it is important to choose a cast that
is dedicated and available to attend rehearsals.
● It is significant to note that although a teacher is allocated to
each house to support the House Play team, all elements, not
excluding the casting of the actors, is at the discretion of the
matrics in charge.

Major Production

This is one of the highlights of our school calendar. In 2011 we presented “Hairspray”, in 2012 we performed “High School Musical” in 2013 we performed "Cinderella", in 2014 we danced the night to "Footloose" and in 2015 we performed "Annie".
The students and teachers alike, love the performances of the students and the talent we have to offer is outstanding.

The theme of the 2018 Major Production is "Beauty and the Beast."

deliver a speech or part of speech.
● Speakers are chosen according to content and delivery.
● Content: The content is judged for its depth, sophistication,
flair, diction, originality and its ability to interest, enlighten and
inspire.
● Delivery: The delivery is judged on its fluency, tonal variation,
pace, audience contact, spontaneity, pause, pace, nuance,
stance and clarity.
Grade 10-12
● Because of the standard at this level, expectations of skills
development, the nature of the activity and the cumulative
requirements of the constitution, necessary preference is
given to those from the previous year's’ teams. This is also
to ensure that the speakers are not compromised as little as
possible individually and as a whole.
● If an existing speaker’s efforts or commitment are inadequate,
they are replaced.
● If there are speakers who withdraw from the activity, they are
replaced.
● Auditions/tryouts are held to fill the available roles if an

required from the pupil during the audition: Own song: (scored out
of 10) This is any song the pupil wants to sing that they feel
confident in. Prescribed Song: (scored out of 10) This will be the
National Anthem or Amazing Grace so the selector/s can harmonize
to this to see if the pupil will be able to sing with other voice groups.
